At the western end of the Hardangervidda you will find Trolltunga, the most spectacular rock formation in Norway. Trolltunga is a small stone plateau that juts out from the rock 700 meters above Ringedalsvatnet. The trip up is mostly in high mountain terrain and is long and demanding. But you get paid for the effort – up there awaits a magnificent view.
The path to Trolltunga (1180 masl) is well marked. From the main starting point on P2 in Skjeggedal, the trip back and forth is 28 kilometers. The height difference is 800 meters. Normally the trip takes 8-12 hours. One can also start at P3 Mågelitopp. From P3 Mågelitopp, the trip back and forth is 20 kilometers. The height difference is 320 meters and the trip takes 7-10 hours.
